It has been announced that "Sai," a masterpiece by manga artist and illustrator Seizo Watase, known for his manga "Heart Cocktail," will be republished. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Watase's career as an artist, this masterpiece, which depicts traditional Japanese life in a complete departure from the West Coast-style "Heart Cocktail," will be republished as "Sai Complete Edition" (Genkosha) in six volumes.
"Sai" was serialized in "Morning" (Kodansha) from 1992 to 1998. It depicts the beautiful flowers and scenery of Japan's four seasons, the good old lifestyle and cityscapes, and has a beautiful color and seasonal feel. It was Watase's longest-running serialization. The sequel, "Sai - Again -", was also serialized in "Morning" from 2007 to 2009.
The original "Sai" comics have been published in 12 volumes, but the reprint will be 6 volumes in total, combining two volumes into one, and will include valuable materials such as unpublished names. It will also come with an original cover.
Volumes 1-3 and the three-volume set "Sai Complete Box I" will be released on June 23, and volumes 4-6 and the three-volume set "Sai Complete Box II" will be released at the end of August. The sequel "Sai ~Futatabi~" is also scheduled to be reprinted in 2026.
