The first biographical picture book depicting the 94-year life of Takashi Yanase(1919-2013), the manga artist and picture book writer who created "Anpanman," titled "The Story of Takashi Yanase: Why Were We Born? What Do We Live For?" (Froebel-kan) was released on May 16th.
The picture book was written and illustrated by Yanase Studio, which continues Yanase's legacy. The characters are anthropomorphized animals, based on the Yanase Rabbit that Yanase used to draw as a self-portrait. It has been designed to be familiar to children of the generation who love Anpanman. It covers Yanase's childhood in Kochi, his wartime experiences, his meeting with Nobu, who would later become his wife, the birth of the picture book "Anpanman," and his life. A timeline is also included at the end of the book.
