Two of the seven judges for the "R-1 Grand Prix 2025" (Kansai TV/Fuji TV, March 8th, 6:30pm) which will decide the "best solo comedian in Japan" have been revealed. The two judges will be the female solo comedian "charismatic" Tomochika and the 2011 "R-1 Grand Prix" champion, Sakuma Kazuyuki.
The R-1 Grand Prix began in 2002 and this year is the 23rd time. Previous winners include Hakata Hanamaru of "Hakata Hanamaru & Daikichi", Hollywood Zakoshishou, Akira 100%, Soshina of "Shimofuri Myojo", and Noda Crystal of "Magical Lovely". Last year, Machiura Pink was crowned the 22nd champion.
The finalists this time were Hiro Okamura, Chance Oshiro, Tatsuhara Rine, Hagino Lizardman, Lucifer Yoshioka, Yoshizumi, Sayaka Niyama, Tomoda Ore, and Matsumoto Club (in order of their material). Lucifer Yoshioka and Matsumoto Club are advancing to the finals for the seventh time. Yoshizumi is advancing for the fourth time, and Tatsuhara, the 2023 champion, is advancing for the second time in two years.
The number of judges was increased from five to seven, with Tomochika, Sakuma, Jinnai Tomonori, Bakarhythm, Koyabu Chito, Noda Crystal (Magical Lovely), and Hollywood Zakoshi Show taking part.
