According to a ranking of moviegoers from the 24th to 26th (surveyed by Kogyo Tsushinsha) announced on January 27th, the theatrical pre-release version of the latest work in the popular Gundam anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- (directed by Tsurumaki Kazuya), topped the charts for the second week in a row. Over the three-day weekend, it attracted an audience of about 306,000 people and grossed about 528 million yen. Cumulatively, it has attracted an audience of 850,000 people and grossed over 1.4 billion yen.
In second place is "366 Days" (directed by Takehiko Shinjo), which has been climbing the ranks with each passing week since its release, attracting around 187,000 viewers over the three-day weekend and earning around 242 million yen. In total, it has attracted over 750,000 viewers and made nearly 1 billion yen.
Among the works that made their debut, "Under Ninja" (directed by Yuichi Fukuda), a live-action film adaptation of a manga by Kengo Hanazawa, known for "I Am a Hero" and other works, starring actor Kento Yamazaki, ranked third. Since its release on January 24, it has attracted approximately 160,000 viewers and grossed approximately 226 million yen.
In fourth place, as in the previous week, was "Cells at Work" (directed by Hideki Takeuchi), which drew a total of 4.12 million viewers and topped 5.5 billion yen in box office revenue. Other existing titles include "Grand Maison Paris" (directed by Tsukahara Ayuko), which came in fifth place, drawing a total of 2.16 million viewers and topping 3.1 billion yen in box office revenue. "Moana 2" (directed by Dave Derrick Jr. et al.), in eighth place, drew a total of 3.7 million viewers and topped 4.9 billion yen in box office revenue.
