Hokuto Matsumura of the popular group "SixTONES" attended an event held in Tokyo on January 28th to promote the movie "First Kiss" (directed by Ayuko Tsukahara, to be released on February 7th), starring Takako Matsu. He revealed that he regrets his speech at the Japan Academy Awards, saying, "If only I hadn't said that one word..."
In commemoration of this day being "Anecdote Day," Matsumura was asked about a past anecdote that he "would like to do over." With a wry smile, he said, "I'm sorry, I'm a jokey person. I really regret it, or rather, I wish I hadn't said that one word, and I once received the Newcomer Award and Topic Award at the Academy Awards..." as he recalled an incident that occurred at the 46th Japan Academy Awards in 2023.
Matsumura said, "I felt out of place because I'm not an actor. I was happy to receive the award, but the problem was the speech." He revealed his feelings at the time, saying, "About 10 minutes after (giving his speech for the Newcomer Award), the same guy came out again (for the Topic Award), and I thought people who knew him a little were thinking, 'Who is he?' or 'Here comes an idol,' so the second (speech) was really awkward."
He continued, "I feel out of place, coming on stage like this. Thank you for bringing up someone like me.' I could have ended it there, but for some reason I said, 'I'm sorry,' and left. There was a commotion in the venue." He recalled, and added, "If only I hadn't said 'I'm sorry,' it would have been a little more calm."
The film is a love story about Suzuri Kanna (Matsu), a wife who loses her husband in an accident after 15 years of marriage, who falls in love again with her husband Suzuri Kakeru (Matsumura), whom she meets just before time travel, and tries to change his fate of dying in an accident 15 years later.
The event was broadcast live in 95 theaters across the country, with approximately 16,000 people in attendance. Matsu and Director Tsukahara were also in attendance.
