It has been announced that the TV anime "A Star Brighter Than the Sun," based on the manga by Kawahara Kazune, known for works such as "Sensei!", "High School Debut," and "Aozora Yell," will be broadcast nationwide simultaneously on 28 TBS affiliates every Thursday at 11:56 pm starting October 2nd. Additional cast members have also been announced, including Hina Hitsujimiya as Hina Yomiya, Taito Ban Saka as Yota Ayukawa, Mutsumi Tamura as Miori Kagawa, and Ryota Osaka as Yushin Izawa. It has also been announced that singer-songwriter Motohiro Hata will be performing the opening theme (OP), "Stellar Days."
The key visual featuring the six main characters, including Iwata Sakuhide and Kamishiro Kouki, and the first promotional video depicting the high school life of Sakuhide, Kouki, and others have been released. The second half of the video features the opening theme song "Stellar Days" by Hata. Hata commented on the song, "I created ' A Star Brighter Than the Sun' hoping to express the overflowing dazzle and endlessly clear purity, as well as the wavering and trembling confusion, that are inherent in the work 'A Star More Dazzling Than the Sun.' I hope you enjoy the song along with the work."
Yomiya, who plays Sakuei's friend Hisui Onodera, said, "There are many scenes in which Hisui supports Sakuei's love, but I tried not to become too much of a motherly person at those times... or rather, I tried to keep in mind that I wanted Hisui to enjoy supporting Sakuei and watching over his love, while still retaining her kind and caring nature."
Saka, who plays Ayukawa Yota, a classmate of Sakuhide, commented, "When I was playing Yota, I was conscious of speaking honestly and honestly about what I felt and thought. The reason for this is that although Yota is a quiet person who doesn't say much, I felt that he was someone who had a strong sense of self, was honest in what he said, and was able to clearly express his opinions. Another reason was that he grew up in a small village, so there were some 'normal' differences between him and others."
Tamura, who plays Sakuhide's friend Kagawa Miori, said, "The direction often told me to make Kagawa like a samurai, so I tried to make him rugged and not very friendly, but also rational and cool. Also, he sometimes shows his affection, so I tried to portray those rare acts of affection while still maintaining his ruggedness. He's not a very talkative person, so I hope he stands out sometimes!"
Osaka, who plays Izawa Yuushin, a classmate of Sakuei, said, "Izawa is good at studying and is smart, but he's basically an idiot, so I was able to play him quite freely. However, although his classmates sometimes react coldly to him, they never dislike him, so I played him with the hope of creating a character that doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, and makes you laugh and think, 'What an idiot.'"
"A Star Brighter Than the Sun" is a manga that has been serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha) since June 2021. It depicts the first love of Iwata Sakuei, a girl who is stronger than average. Sakuei had a crush on the frail Kamishiro Mitsuteru, but as he grew taller and became more popular, he became a distant presence. However, when they meet at their final middle school sports festival, their first love begins to move forward. The comic has sold over 3 million copies in total.
