The NHK Taiga drama " UNBOUND (Berabou) " (General TV, Sundays at 8pm and others), starring actor Ryusei Yokohama Ryusei, began airing on January 5th. This is the first of the long-running Taiga dramas to depict the mid-Edo period. Here we introduce Tokugawa Ieshige (played by Mashima Hidekazu), who also appeared in the first episode, "Arigatayama no Kangarasu."
Tokugawa Ieharu was the 10th Shogun with a deep bond with Ienari.
Because the ninth shogun, Ieshige, had a poor speaking ability and was physically weak, he received a gifted education from the eighth shogun, Yoshimune, from an early age. In accordance with Ieshige's will, he appointed Tanuma Okitsugu as his chamberlain and worked hard in politics with Matsudaira Takemoto and others.
His hobby was shogi (Japanese chess), of which he was a skilled player, and it is said that he deepened his bond with Okenori through the game.
"UNBOUND (Berabou)" is the 64th taiga drama, depicting the life of Tsutaya Juzaburo(or "Tsutajyu" for short), who is said to have built the foundations of Japan's media industry and pop culture. The script was written by Yoshiko Morishita, known for "Drama 10 'Ooku'" which was broadcast on NHK two years ago and became a big hit.
