Akiyama Ryuji of the comedy trio "Robert" will appear in the new year's issue of "Shincho Novels" (Shinchosha), which goes on sale on December 20th. The issue, titled "Emergency Special: Why Akiyama Ryuji Now?", will feature an interview that delves into Akiyama's true character as a creator, as well as a collaboration project with a Naoki Prize-winning author.
Akiyama is called a "genius" by many creators. His YouTube channel "Creators File," in which he impersonates people from various industries and talks about his work and life, has more than 950,000 subscribers and has been viewed more than 200 million times in total. His excellent performance as Fujiwara no Sanesuke in the NHK Taiga drama "Dear Radiance (Hikaru Kimi e)" also attracted attention.
The magazine features an interview and photos that take a look behind the scenes of Akiyama's creations. The full-page, full-color edition conveys Akiyama's appeal as a creator. The interview was conducted at the Shinchosha Club, a "confined room" where Yukio Mishima and Yasunari Kawabata also stayed.
In addition, Akiyama will be dressed as Professor Akiyama Satsuki, a master of "atmosphere proverbs," who create proverbs by choosing words that create a sense of atmosphere alone, and will be correcting "atmosphere tanka" written by Naoki Prize-winning authors Ichiho Michi, Ogawa Satoshi, Sakuragi Shino, and others.
