The first comic book adaptation of "The Red Spectacles," the first live-action film by director Mamoru Oshii, known for "Mobile Police Patlabor" and "Ghost in the Shell," was published in the 2025 issue of the manga magazine "Manga Action" (Futabasha), released on December 17. Kamui Fujiwara was in charge of the illustrations.
The film began as an independent film project to make a promotional film for voice actor Chiba Shigeru, but the project gradually expanded in scale and was made into a full-fledged film shot on 35mm film, and released in 1987.
Participants included people involved with the anime "Urusei Yatsura," including screenwriter Kazunori Ito, as well as voice actors Machiko Washio, Hideyuki Tanaka, Tessho Genda and other people from the anime industry.
