It has been revealed that actors Mio Kudo and Ichika Osaki will co-star in the drama series "Call Me by No Name" (MBS and others), which will begin on January 9th at midnight. This will be the first time for both of them to star in a lead role, as they played the "Sentai Pink" in "Mashin Sentai Kiramager" and "Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger" seasons apart.
The drama is a "girls' love mystery" based on the novel of the same name by mystery writer Yuki Shasendo. University student Megumi Yotsugi (played by Kudo) wants to become friends with Kotoha Furuhashi (played by Osaki), a beautiful woman who was abandoned in a garbage dump, but Kotoha proposes a strange bet: "If you can guess her real name, you will become 'friends', but until you can guess her name, you will remain 'lovers'." Unable to back out, Ai accepts the bet and the two awkwardly deepen their relationship as lovers, but the past hidden in Kotoha's name bares its fangs.
Kudo commented, "When I was chosen to appear, I remember feeling happy and nervous even before filming began because it was my first lead role in a drama, which was my goal. I hope everyone will watch until the end to see how Ai, who is clumsy but meets Kotonoha, grows stronger as she struggles desperately. The visuals are also very beautiful, and I can't wait for everyone to see it."
Looking back on the filming, Osaki said, "When I first read the original novel, I remember feeling a kind of pressure, thinking, 'Can I really play this Furuhashi Kotonoha?...?' I strongly felt a bewitching charm from Kotonoha that doesn't reveal everything, and a quiet, yet even powerful, sexiness. I spent every day filming, desperately searching within myself for the outline of Kotonoha, who I couldn't quite grasp, and trying not to let go." She added, "This is my first lead role in a drama. The days were hectic. I hope that this reaches many people."
Shasendo commented, "It's an important story to me, so I was surprised when I heard it was going to be made into a TV drama. Before filming began, I wondered how it would turn out, but now I believe that the people involved approached this story with sincerity. I personally enjoyed the emotions, space, and new interpretations that were conveyed when the text was turned into a screen. I hope that everyone who has read the novel will look forward to the new 'Call Me by No Name'."
The drama "Call Me by No Name" will start on January 9th at 1:29am on MBS. There are 8 episodes, 30 minutes each. It will also be broadcast on TV Kanagawa and TV Saitama (at different times than MBS), and you can catch up on it on TVer.
