Actor Daiken Okudaira will appear in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Mikami Sensei" (Sundays at 9pm) starring Tori Matsuzaka, which will be broadcast in January 2025. He will play Kanzaki Takuto, a student in class 3-2, who becomes the homeroom teacher for the main character Mikami Takashi (Matsuzaka) at the private high school where he is assigned under the government dispatch system. Okudaira commented, "This is my first drama in about a year, and it's a Sunday Theatre drama, so I'm very proud to be able to appear in this work."
"Mikami Sensei" is an original school drama written by Shimori Roba, who has been a major figure in the theater world, including receiving the Outstanding Director Award at the 28th Yomiuri Theater Awards. The story revolves around the "school" where children live and the "ministry" where adults struggle. This is a story of a major reversal in education revival, depicting the reality that children who dream of the future are sacrificed by the power of corrupt adults, and the story of a bureaucratic teacher and high school students in the Reiwa era who stand up against such a reality.
Takuto Kanzaki, played by Okudaira, is the head of the news club and aspires to be a journalist. He has mixed feelings of respect and resentment towards his father, a newspaper reporter. He has a sense of justice and excellent grades, but he is not the type to show his emotions. He has a charisma that dominates the atmosphere in the class.
Okudaira said, "It's been a while since filming began, but the set is bright and comfortable, and more than anything, it's a lot of fun acting. I hope you'll pay attention to how not only Kanzaki, the character I play, but all of the classmates grow as they overcome various challenges."
In addition to Okudaira, other students cast members of class 3-2 have been announced, including Makita Aju, Kubozuka Airu, Sakura Kiryu, Kamisaka Juri, and Akari Takaishi.
