It was revealed on November 8th that voice actress Megumi Han will be playing the popular character Sasha in "Yamato Forever REBEL 3199," the latest installment in the remake series of the popular anime "Space Battleship Yamato." "Yamato 3199" is the latest in the remake series, which reinterprets and reconstructs the third anime film, "Yamato Forever," released in 1980. In "Yamato Forever," Megumi Han's mother, Keiko Han, played Sasha, and Megumi Han will be taking over the role from her mother.
The announcement was made at the stage greeting to celebrate the completion of the second chapter of "Yamato 3199," "Red Sun's Sorcerer," held at Shinjuku Piccadilly (Shinjuku, Tokyo) on November 8th. Megumi Han is known for her roles as Gon Freecss in "Hunter x Hunter" and Arima Kana in "Oshi no Ko," while Keiko Han has played Lalah Sune in "Mobile Suit Gundam." Together, mother and daughter will be playing popular characters that transcend generations.
Sasha is the daughter of Mamoru Kodai and Starsha. She is the niece of the main character, Susumu Kodai, and holds the key to the story. A visual of Sasha was also released.
In her speech, Megumi Han said, "I am extremely honored and humbled. I feel like it was fate that I was born to my mother. I am proud to be standing here like this. It is an honor in this line of work."
Han Keiko appeared in the remake series as Mother Desarium, and general director Fukui Harutoshi explained the reason for casting the mother and daughter pair, saying, "I couldn't think of any other way. If I was going to do it, I wanted to have the mother in some form... that's what I was thinking about since 2205."
Writer Fukui will serve as general director of Yamato 3199, and will also be in charge of series composition and scriptwriting. Fukui was in charge of series composition and scriptwriting for the remake series Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love and Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage, and will also be general director of the latest film. Yamato Naomichi will be the director. There will be a total of seven chapters, with the second chapter, "Red Sun's Sorcerer," set to premiere on November 22nd.
The first Space Battleship Yamato anime series was broadcast in 1974, and other works have since been produced, including Space Battleship Yamato 2, Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, Warriors of Love, and Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection. The remake series Space Battleship Yamato 2199 was released in theaters and on TV from 2012 to 2014, and the sequel to 2199, Space Battleship Yamato 2202, Warriors of Love, was released in theaters and TV from 2017 to 2019. The two-part series Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Voyage was released in theaters in 2021 and 2022. In the remake series, Ono Daisuke plays Susumu Kodai and Kuwashima Houko plays Mori Yuki.
