It has been announced that a second season of "Snowball Earth," a TV anime series combining science fiction, monsters, and robot action, based on the manga by Yuichiro Tsuji, which is serialized in "Monthly Spirits" (Shogakukan), will be produced. The first season began airing in April on Nippon Television's anime block "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (FuraAni)" and concluded with its final episode on June 26th, at which point a promotional video announcing the production of the second season was released.
The promotional video hints at the new challenges that protagonist Tetsuo and his giant robot partner Yukio will face next, and also introduces new characters. Illustrations celebrating the decision to produce a second season, created by original author Yuhiro Tsuji, director Munehisa Sakai, staff, and voice actors, were also released.
"Snowball Earth" is a sci-fi x monster x robot action series set on Snowball Earth, an Earth covered in snow and ice. The story follows Tetsuo, a shy boy, and his giant robot partner Yukio, as they return to Earth 10 years after a final battle for the survival of humanity, only to find it frozen solid. The comic series has sold over 800,000 copies.
