The fourth episode of the NHK Saturday drama "Mushoran Mitsuboshi" (NHK General, Saturdays at 10 PM), starring actress Eiko Koike, will air on June 20th. The subtitle of the episode is "Karaage Explosion." Yoko (Koike), a registered dietitian at the prison, proposes homemade karaage as a Christmas menu item.
"Mushoran Mitsuboshi" is based on a masterpiece non-fiction book by Keiko Kuroyanagi, a currently working prison nutritionist, which depicts the little-known state of food inside prisons. The story follows a protagonist who made a name for himself as a skilled Italian chef, but by chance ends up working as a prison nutritionist, and depicts his struggles to overcome troubles and commotions with prison guards and inmates behind bars. It is a "prison social comedy drama."
In episode 4, during a discussion about the Christmas menu for the school lunch meeting in December, Yoko proposes homemade fried chicken instead of frozen. Department head Irie (Katsuhisa Namase), who is usually strict about unprecedented menus, accepts Yoko's proposal for certain reasons. In the kitchen, inmate Kawaguchi (Reo Tamaoki) confesses his crimes to Takeda (Yoichi Nukumizu) and asks, "Can't people change that easily?"
On Christmas Eve, an unexpected incident befalls Yoko.
