It was announced on November 27th that Tayama Aoi's K-POP themed manga "Girl Crush" will be adapted into a TV anime and broadcast on TBS and other networks. The manga began serialization in 2019 on "Comic Nicola," a label within LINE Manga jointly established by Shinchosha's fashion magazine "Nicola" and manga magazine "Comic Bunch," and depicts the coming-of-age ensemble of girls aspiring to become K-POP idols. This will be the first time that a TV anime with a K-POP theme has been produced in Japan, and it will be planned and produced by TBS Television and ENISHIYA.
The series has been popular among young women since its initial serialization began, with the total number of copies of the comic series exceeding 900,000. In 2021, the Korean version won the New Work of the Year award at the 2021 RIDIBOOKS COMIC AWARD in Korea, drawing attention from around the world.
Original author Tayama Aoi commented, "It has been decided that 'Girl Crush' will be made into an anime! I get excited every time I read the script. I am filled with gratitude to all the staff who have a deep understanding of the work and cherish it so much. I can't wait for the day when I can see Tenka singing and dancing. A visual of the main character, Momose Tenka, drawn by Tayama Aoi and a movie commemorating the TV anime adaptation have been released.
