46-year-old commentator Taizo Sugimura will appear on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 p.m. on November 19th.
Sugimura is also well known as a commentator on the same station's "Wide! Scramble" (Monday to Friday, 10:25am). He says that his experience as a member of parliament comes in handy when he makes comments on the show, but that he is always careful about what he says. When he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2005 at the age of 26, he made a bold statement that he wanted to go to a traditional Japanese restaurant. He is a talented tennis player who won the national championship in high school. He took a break from tennis for a while, but started playing again three years ago and has been competing in tournaments. He says that by getting a coach and practicing seriously, he feels that he is growing even in his late 40s. He came second in a tournament this year, which made his family very happy. His three children don't play tennis now, but as a father he smiles and says that he would like to play with them when they enter the workforce.
