It was announced on October 20th that Kitagawa Rio, a member of the idol group Morning Musume '25, will be graduating from the group by the end of the year. On the same day, the Hello! Project official website announced, "Kitagawa Rio, a member currently on hiatus, will be graduating from Morning Musume '25 and Hello! Project by the end of the year."
Kitagawa joined the group as a 15th generation member in 2019. She has appeared in numerous manga magazines and released five solo photo books. The group has been on hiatus since April of this year.
On the same day, Kitagawa also released a comment on the 15th generation blog, explaining her reason for deciding to graduate: "During my hiatus, I repeatedly regretted my past careless actions and wondered whether I should continue with my activities. However, considering the magnitude of the burden I would be placing on the other members and the many staff members who always support me, I decided that it was time to put an end to it and move on to a new path."
She continued, "During this period, I was helped many times by people who sent me fan letters and messages. I wanted to meet them in person and express my gratitude, and as we continued to discuss our future plans, we have decided to hold individual events and graduation events." She revealed that events are planned.
"I joined at the age of 15 and have received so much love and had so many wonderful experiences that I can't count. They are without a doubt a treasure in my life. Although there is only a short time left, I would like to express my gratitude for these past six and a half years directly through this event. I would appreciate your continued support," she wrote.
