Actor Sadao Abe recently attended a press conference for the New Year's special of the popular drama " Extremely Inappropriate! " (TBS), "Shortly after the New Year, it 'Extremely Inappropriate! ! ~Can't we talk seriously?~" (to be broadcast on January 4, 2026). He said about the New Year's special, "There are some scenes with a nostalgic Showa-era feel that will make you feel a little nervous watching it with your family, like, 'Ah, is it okay to watch this?' It's a fun production, so please do check it out."
In addition to Abe, the press conference was attended by Riisa Naka, Hayato Isomura, Yuumi Kawai, Sakamoto Aito, Yoshida Yo, and screenwriter Kudo Kankuro. The press conference took place on the set of "Cafe Scandal," and Abe, who said he enjoyed playing the main character Ichiro again, seemed to be aware of the show's popularity, saying, "Even when I walk around my neighborhood, people still say, 'That's inappropriate!' When you think about it, it's a big production."
When asked about his nickname "Extremely Inappropriate!," the MC asked, "You said (previously) that you've never shortened it to ' Extremely Inappropriate!'," Abe replied with a smile, "That's right. Even today, no one has said it as ' Extremely Inappropriate!' even once."
In this special drama, which follows on from the series, Ichiro, who has been given the ability to travel to any era of his choice through a time tunnel, rises up again to change the future of his daughter Junko (played by Kawai). This time, he travels not only to the Reiwa era, but also to the future and the past, stirring up trouble wherever he goes. Noriko Eguchi will guest star as Taira Junko, a Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly member who influences Ichiro's granddaughter, Nagisa (played by Naka).
In this work, Ichiro appears in various eras. Regarding the setting that allows the protagonist to travel to any era through a time tunnel, Miyato said with a wry smile, "If you can go anywhere, then in the end it's me (who writes the script) who has the hardest time." He recalled that for the first time, he sent the script to producer Isoyama Akira when it was only half-finished, saying, "As I was writing, I got confused. I asked, 'Is it okay to continue like this?' and (Isoyama) said, 'Please proceed with this.'" He seemed to have struggled.
According to Miyato, Kiyoshi, played by Sakamoto, is the key character in this work, and it is also a story of Kiyoshi's growth. Miyato said, "The change in two years for a young man is far more dramatic than the change in Ichiro, who turned from 51 to 53 years old. If the work continues in the future, Kiyoshi will become increasingly central."
The drama tells the story of Ichiro, a strict middle school physical education teacher who, by chance, travels back in time from 1986 (Showa 61) to 2024, where he makes a series of remarks that are inappropriate in the Reiwa era and disregard compliance. Meanwhile, the drama provides an opportunity for the people of the Reiwa era, who are bound by compliance, to think, and depicts people who continue to live their lives to the fullest, always valuing their family and their work, no matter the era. " Extremely Inappropriate! ~Can't we talk seriously?~" will air on January 4, 2026, at 9:00 PM.
