NHK's documentary "Interesting Houses" (general) will be broadcasting "Memories of Dojunkai Houses (Ekoda, Tokyo)" from 6:05 pm on July 21st, and will look into the unexpected stories hidden in interesting houses that you can see in the city, such as old Western-style houses and mansions hidden in hedges.
Near the Ekoda station in Tokyo, there is a Japanese house where time seems to have stopped. When you enter, you will find a kitchen and a Goemon bath that are just like they were in the Taisho period. Twenty years ago, the house was abandoned and would have been demolished and turned into an apartment building, but it turned out to be a valuable residential heritage.
It was the last of 30 detached houses built here by the Dojunkai, known for the "Dojunkai Apartments." Who lived there, and why did it remain? This is the story of the family and neighbors who preserved and restored the house.
