The NHK drama series " The Great Passage ~ Watashi, Jisho Tsukurimasu ~" starring the actor Elaiza Ikeda and Yojiro Noda of the rock band "RADWIMPS" will be broadcast on terrestrial TV in the "Drama 10" time slot (General TV, Tuesdays at 10pm) from June 17th. The story is based on a bestselling novel by Shion Miura, and the drama depicts the passion of people who work on dictionary creation from the perspective of Midori Kishibe (played by Ikeda), a young editorial staff member who has been transferred to the dictionary editorial department.
The script is written by Hiruta Naomi, who has worked on NHK's serial dramas "Shizuka-chan and Dad" and "This is Not Expenseable!". Midori Kishibe, a young editorial staff member at major publishing company Genbu Shobo, is suddenly transferred from the editorial department of a popular fashion magazine to the dictionary editorial department one day. Despite being at the mercy of encounters with the unknown, she finds pride and fulfillment in creating dictionaries. The story was broadcast on NHK BS and BS Premium 4K from February to April 2024.
Noda will play the original protagonist, Majime Mitsuya, the extremely earnest head of the dictionary editorial department. Other cast members include Osamu Mukai Kyohei, Yamoto Yuma, Miura Rie, Iwamatsu Ryo, Watanabe Makiko, and Maeda Oshiro.
In the first episode, Midori Kishibe is a fashion magazine editor at the major publishing company Genbu Shobo. Although she is dedicated to her work, one day she is suddenly ordered to transfer to the dictionary editing department, where she becomes involved in the compilation of Genbu Shobo's first medium-sized dictionary, "Odo Kai," together with her boss, Mitsuya Majime, who is obsessed with words he doesn't know, Japanese language scholar Matsumoto-sensei (Shibata-san), and outside editor Araki (Iwamatsu-san).
Midori is confused by the unfamiliar task of making a dictionary, and her only source of comfort is her live-in boyfriend, Shohei (Nobuyuki Suzuki).
