The editorial department of Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump +" has established a new manga award, the "Shonen Jump + Bad Guy Manga Award," and began accepting submissions on June 3rd.
This is a manga award that accepts works that feature attractive bad characters, and the "bad characters" can be protagonists, enemies, or in any other position. The grand prize will be the "Best Bad Guy Award," the runner-up will be the "Excellent Bad Guy Award," and at least one work must be selected for the "Excellent Bad Guy Award." Winners will receive a cash prize and will be guaranteed publication in "Shonen Jump+."
In addition to the manga submission and publishing service "Jump Rookie!", applications will be accepted via a web submission form and by mail. The deadline for applications is September 15th.
Following the establishment of the manga award, the editorial department blog of "Jump Rookie!" published interviews with five popular authors of "Shonen Jump+", including Naoya Matsumoto and Kaku Yuji, in which they talked about how they come up with villains and compelling bad characters, and how they use them in stories.
