The 38th episode of the NHK Asadora drama "Anpan " starring Mio Imada (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00 AM and others) was broadcast on May 21. The episode featured a flashback scene of Ranko ( Yuumi Kawai) and Go (Kanata Hosoda), who died in the war, which became a hot topic among viewers.
In episode 38, the Asada family is grieving the news of Gou's death in battle. While everyone else is saying, "Gou was a great man," Ranko remains silent. Late at night, Ranko stays awake to keep the incense burning, and she places her hands together on Gou's happi coat and quietly asks, "Gou-chan? You're hungry, aren't you?"
The next day, when Nobu's students come to pay their respects and say that they want to serve their country well one day, Ranko cannot bear it and leaves. Then, as Ranko heads to the stone yard where Gou is working, memories of him come back to her.
As the cicadas and bush crickets chirp, Gou is chipping away at the stone, his hair wet with sweat. Ranko is watching him from afar. When Gou calls out to her, Ranko happily runs over to him and hands him his tools, saying, "G-Gou-chan, you forgot something. Grandpa told you to take it."
As Ranko started to jog back, the strap of her geta broke. Noticing, Gou called her to a stop, put her hand on his shoulder, and said "I'm sorry" as he helped her take off her geta and placed her feet on his lap. Gou tore off a hand towel he was holding and used it as a strap to skillfully repair the problem. He helped Ranko put on the geta and told her to be careful. Ranko was bashful, but she was smiling happily.
Comments on social media about this flashback scene included, "I can't stop crying," "It really tugs at my heartstrings," "I got goosebumps," "A famous scene that will remain in the history of Asadora," "Ranko's flashback is as beautiful as an old Japanese movie," and "It's not fair that they hid an episode like this."
