On May 20th, it was revealed that additional cast members for WOWOW's drama series "Drama W Kaibutsu," starring actors Ken Yasuda and Koshi Mizukami, include Ayame Goriki, Shinya Kote, Jun Hashimoto, Ken Mitsuishi, Atsuko Takahata, Atsuro Watanabe, Shiori Kubo from the idol group Nogisaka46, Shingo Fujimori, Sei Matobu, and Taichi Saotome. Additionally, the poster visual and the second Teaser trailer trailer were released, and it was also announced that the series will begin airing and streaming on July 6th.
The drama is a remake of the popular Korean suspense drama "Monster." The original drama was produced by SLL, a major Korean studio that has produced many works such as "Itaewon Class" and "The Youngest Son of a Chaebol Family," and will be broadcast on JTBC in 2021. It won three awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards, Korea's most prestigious awards, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor. WOWOW directly approached SLL, becoming the first in the world to remake "Monster."
The story begins when Togashi Kotone (Itose Nanaba), a female college student living in Hatano Town, disappears in the garden of her home, leaving only the first joint of her finger behind. 25 years have passed since the case remains unsolved. Kotone's twin brother Togashi Hiroyuki (Yasuda) has become a police officer and works in the Hatano Police Station's Public Safety Division. Career police officer Yashiro Masato (Mizukami) is transferred there. The two don't get along, but are ordered by the section chief Moridaira (Mitsuishi) to pair up. They receive a call while on patrol and go to search for an elderly man with dementia... and so the story unfolds.
Goriki plays Matsuda Rinko, who runs a yakiniku restaurant that is patronized by the Public Safety Division while waiting for her missing mother; Kote plays Yanagi Tatsuo, the owner of a small liquor store who lives with his daughter from his ex-wife; Hashimoto plays Nakahashi Yohei, the president of a construction company who is plotting to make a huge profit from the Hatano town redevelopment project; Mitsuishi plays Mori Heisaburo, Togashi's boss and head of the Public Safety Division; Takahata plays Tadokoro Kayo, an ambitious prefectural assembly member who dotes on her only son and is devoting her efforts to the Hatano town redevelopment project while aiming to become the next prefecture governor; and Watanabe plays Yashiro Masayoshi, Masato's father and deputy commissioner general of the National Police Agency, who is vying for the position of the next National Police Agency Commissioner General.
It will be broadcast on WOWOW Prime every Sunday at 10pm starting July 6th. There will be 10 episodes in total, with the first episode being broadcast for free.
