A screening with YamaTalk for the third chapter of the latest installment of the remake series of the popular anime "Space Battleship Yamato", "Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199", titled "Gunjou no Asteroid", was held at Shinjuku Piccadilly (Shinjuku, Tokyo) on April 22nd. In response to a question from a fan asking "Will Yamato be renovated in the future?", general director Harutoshi Fukui revealed that "it will change a lot."
Fukui hinted, "The basic model of Yamato is the same as in 2205, with some decorations. If you ask whether it will change significantly, it will change dramatically. The inside will be amazing. It will have this and that from the original work... It's similar to that, but even more amazing. I'm confident about it. Please look forward to it."
The third chapter also depicts the interactions between children such as Fleur, a citizen of Desarium who was colonized as part of the Earth occupation plan, and Tsubasa Kato, the only son of Saburo Kato who died in the war. Director Naomichi Yamato said, "Fleur is not just an enemy or an alien. She is connected to the theme," and Fukui nodded, saying, "There is an episode about the two of them after this."
There are still many mysteries surrounding "Yamato 3199." Finally, Fukui said, "There are still quite a few surprise boxes left. Please look forward to those as well."
On this day, the screenwriter Hideki Oka and CG director Masahiro Uechi also appeared on stage, titled "CG Edition." They talked about the behind-the-scenes of CG production. The second "Screening with YamaTalk" event, "Mecha Design Edition," will be held on May 8th at Shinjuku Piccadilly, with Fukui, Yamato, Oka, and mechanical designer Junichiro Tamamori appearing on stage.
"Yamato 3199" is a new interpretation of the third theatrical film, "Be Forever Yamato," released in 1980. Harutoshi Fukui will serve as general director, and will also be in charge of series composition and scriptwriting. Fukui was in charge of series composition and scriptwriting for the remake series "Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love" and "Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Voyage," and will also be general director for the latest film. There are seven chapters in total, with the fourth chapter, "Sasha, the Light Blue Maiden," set to premiere on October 10.
