It has been revealed that Ryota Miyadate of the popular group "Snow Man" will be appearing in the movie " Hikuidori wo, Kuu" (released October 3rd, directed by Katsuhide Motoki), starring Mizukami Koshi Mizukami . This will be Miyadate's first solo film appearance, and he will play Hokuto Soichiro, a mysterious man with a deep knowledge of supernatural phenomena and a somewhat dangerous air about him.
The film is based on a novel by Hara Hiroshi, winner of the 40th Yokomizo Seishi Mystery & Horror Award in 2020. The story begins when the protagonist, Kuki Yuji (Mizukami), receives a mysterious diary written by his grandfather's older brother, Sadaichi, who was supposed to have died in the war. After reading the diary, which describes an obsession with life, "I want to eat the Hikuidori," mysterious events begin to occur frequently around Yuji and his wife, Yuriko (Mizuki Yamashita). This mystery horror story follows Sadaichi's diary as a "past" that shouldn't exist gradually eroding "reality."
Hokuto, played by Miyadate, has a deep knowledge of supernatural phenomena, and at the request of his university junior, Yuriko, he sets out to solve the mysterious "phenomenon" that has caught them up. However, Hokuto shows a strange obsession with Yuriko, and soon... Will he be an ally or an enemy? Yuji, Yuriko, and the people around them are at the mercy of Hokuto's words, and the story will unfold in an unexpected way.
Miyadate commented, "I'm a member of the group Snow Man, but this is my first time acting alone in a movie. I've never spoken such long lines before, and I also had special makeup applied in the movie... As someone who delivers entertainment, this is a different genre for me as Miyadate Ryota, and I think it's thanks to this film that I was able to take a new step." He expressed his expectations, saying, "I'm grateful to have come across this film, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of footage it turns out to be."
◇Comment from Ryota Miyadate
Q: How did you feel after finishing filming?
At the time of the script reading, I had never met any of the cast members before, so I was preparing to appeal to the audience as the character of Hokuto, but (when I actually got to the script reading) it far exceeded my expectations. I was aware that Hokuto was a persuasive character and an important role that would lead the story, so I felt that I had to work a little harder. When I actually acted on set, I realized that the process of creating the role while discussing it with everyone was very important this time. I think I was able to play the character of Hokuto to the fullest with everyone's help.
--About the Honki Group
I am very grateful that this is the second time I have worked with Director Motoki (since "The Movie Shonentachi"), and I was able to meet him before the script reading. I felt like we created the character of Hokuto together, talking from the very beginning about what the director thought of Hokuto to be, such as "This is what Hokuto is like." The director has a very clear vision for the character, so I think that the image of Hokuto that I had and the image that the director had in mind are linked together when they are shown in the theater.
--What are you looking forward to and hoping for when the movie is completed?
I'm a member of the group Snow Man, but this is my first time acting in a film on my own. I've never had to speak such a long line before, and I also had to use special makeup... As someone who delivers entertainment, this is a different genre for me as Miyadate Ryota, and I think it's thanks to this film that I was able to take a new step forward. I'm grateful to have come across this film, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of footage it will produce.
