"The House in the Middle of Nowhere" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, every Sunday) is a variety show that uses satellite photos to search for a secluded house. On March 30th, a three-hour special will be broadcast from 6:04 pm, and the search team will visit Kumamoto Prefecture and Kanagawa Prefecture, which will be appearing on the show for the first time.
In Kumamoto Prefecture, the search team heads for a house deep in the mountains. The house has a triangular plot of land, and the road curves at almost a right angle, leaving an impression. When the search team asks residents in the nearest village to check satellite images, they learn that a woman close to 90 years old had been living there alone until recently. Guided by a man (68) who is familiar with the area, they head for the house, but the woman has already gone down the mountain and the house is vacant. The search ends here, and the search team heads home.
On the way, the man who had guided us earlier suddenly said, "It's a completely different mountain, but I suddenly remembered that there was a house standing there by itself." Believing the man's words, "There's no doubt that she lives alone," we resumed the search.
In Kanagawa Prefecture, the search team proceeded along a mountain path toward a building marked by a gray roof. When they asked residents in the nearest village, they immediately replied, "There is a ranch around here in the mountains." Then a man (74) who lives in a thatched-roof house came up to them and told them, "The couple runs the ranch," and then called the woman who runs the ranch.
The woman (35), who runs a farm, has her home and processing plant in the village, and the search team met her and headed to the farm at the top of the mountain together. The farm was formerly a prefecture-run dairy farm. After it closed in 2016, a woman who worked in mountain dairy farming in Iwate Prefecture moved there. In 2018, the couple started mountain dairy farming. Mountain dairy farming involves letting cows roam freely on vast pastures and farming dairy cows raised in a stress-free environment.
The woman showers her dairy cows with love, with the thought of "raising them together with the mountains and fields." Her husband (31), who sympathizes with the woman's feelings, supports the dairy farm while doing housework. He grows rice in the local rice fields and offers rice farming experiences to local children and people from the city. The search team closely follows the work process of the mountain dairy farm, which is run with consideration for both the environment and the dairy cows, such as using dried grass from the rice straw produced during rice farming as feed for the cows.
The guests are actors Kenta Kiritani and Neru Nagahama.
