It has been announced that "Lupin the Third: The Intrigue of the Fuma Clan," an original video animation (OVA) from the popular anime series "Lupin the Third, " based on the manga by the late Monkey Punch, will be screened at the international animation film festival "Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2025 (TAAF2025)." The screening will commemorate the fact that Kazuhide Tomonaga, who served as the animation director of the film, was selected for the "Anime Achievement Category" at TAAF2025, which is given to people who have made significant contributions to the development of the anime industry and culture. "Little Nemo Pilot Film," for which Tomonaga also served as animation director, will also be screened.
"Lupin the Third: The Intrigue of the Fuuma Clan" and "Little Nemo Pilot Film" will be screened at 7pm on March 8th at Cine Libre Ikebukuro Theater 1 (Toshima-ku, Tokyo). There will also be a talk show with Tomonaga.
"Lupin the Third: The Intrigue of the Fuuma Clan" was the first OVA in the Lupin the Third anime series, released in April 1988, and was shown in some theaters in December 1987. Toshio Furukawa played Lupin the Third, Banjō Ginga played Jigen Daisuke, Kaneto Shiozawa played Ishikawa Goemon, Mami Koyama played Fujiko Mine, and Seizō Kato played Inspector Zenigata. Animator Yasuo Otsuka supervised, and Tomonaga, who worked on the car chase scene in "Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro", served as animation director.
It was also announced that an English-subtitled version of "Lookback," which was selected in the Anime of the Year category at TAAF2025, will be screened at Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa Rosa1 (Toshima-ku, Tokyo) from 4 p.m. on March 9.
TAAF has been held since 2014 with the aim of promoting anime culture and industry, and discovering and nurturing new talent. It selects winners in categories such as the "Competition Section" for anime from around the world that have not yet been screened in Japan, and the "Anime of the Year Section" for anime released in Japan. It will be held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo from March 7th to 10th.
