It has been announced that the first chapter of the completely new theatrical trilogy "Mononoke the Movie," "Mononoke the Movie: Karakasa," based on the popular TV anime "Mononoke," which aired on Fuji TV's late-night anime slot "Noitamina" in 2007, will be screened nationwide from March 7. To commemorate the release of the second chapter, "Mononoke the Movie: Chapter 2: Fire Rat," on March 14, the first chapter, which was released in July 2024, will be screened in a special screening.
To commemorate the special screening of Chapter 1, "Karakasa," six new cuts from Chapter 2, "Fire Rat," have been released. In addition to the realistic battle scenes of Shingi and the medicine seller peering in through a hole in a lantern, the cuts also depict Tokita Saburomaru and Asa, who also appeared in Chapter 1. Saburomaru reappears as the younger brother of Fuki, a court lady who is favored by the Emperor. Having witnessed the tragedy of "Karakasa," he looks on with concern for his sister. Asa, who underwent a brutal experience as a new maid in Chapter 1, is said to show a delicate change in Chapter 2.
"Mononoke" is an anime produced by the staff of the popular episode "Bakeneko" of "Ayakashi", which was broadcast on Noitamina in 2006. The story depicts the supernatural tale of a medicine seller who appeared in "Bakeneko" facing off against a Mononoke.
The film version of "Mononoke" is set in the inner palace where women's passions swirl, and the medicine seller pursues the true identity of the "Mononoke". The second chapter will be directed by Kenji Nakamura, who worked on the TV series and the first chapter of the film, and directed by Kiyotaka Suzuki.
