New cuts have been released for the second season of the TV anime "Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku," based on the manga by Yuji Kaku that was serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+." The cuts offer a glimpse into new relationships between characters who are not teaming up, including the executioner Sagiri who takes the hand of the condemned man, Kabane, as well as Kirima and Gantetsusai, and Shugen, who has just landed on the island.
Director Makita Kaori, who is working on the anime, commented on the first season, saying, "I have a special attachment to all the episodes, but the ones that left the biggest impression on me were Sagiri's conflict in episodes 2 and 5. Sagiri's pain was carefully portrayed, from events in her childhood and her interactions with Genji in Shinsenkyo, to the scene where she is told, 'You're a woman, so go home,' and as a woman myself, there were parts that I could empathize with. Episode 2 presents the conflict, which is resolved in episode 5, and then episode 6 leads to her growth. Sagiri's story is completed in the first season."
"The first season particularly carefully depicts the flow of Sagiri's emotions, but the first episode also delves deeper into Gamimaru's character. The first episode of the original is so well-crafted that we faithfully portrayed it in the anime as well. I think the developments in episode 13 resonate even more strongly because we saw Gamimaru cherish his wife in episode 1. This is also due to the structure of Kindaichi (Akira), who is in charge of the scenario, but the flow of the original work itself is very logical and easy to read and understand. Episode 1 in particular is condensed with everything we wanted to portray in ' Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku.' If you pay attention to Gamimaru and Sagiri in episodes 1, 2 and 5, I think you will be able to feel the themes of ' Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku' even more," he explains.
The first season is available for free on YouTube, and for fans rewatching it, he sent a message saying, "The relationships between the characters that began to develop in the first season will deepen and change even more in the second season. The relationships between characters who aren't teaming up, like Gamimaru and Magari, are also one of the highlights. If you pay attention to these aspects in the first season, I think you'll enjoy the second season even more. I also recommend rewatching it from a different perspective. For example, you could make an episode that focuses on Tokubei and Kirima, or Gan Tessai and Fuchi. If you watch it while focusing on 'What is this character thinking in this scene?' you'll grow to like the characters even more, and I think you'll feel even more depth in the second season. I hope you'll watch it over and over again."
"Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku" was serialized in "Shonen Jump+" from January 2018 to January 2021. Set in the late Edo period, the story follows the strongest ninja, Gamimaru, who is betrayed by his comrades and taken prisoner. In order to be reunited with his beloved wife, he fights against monsters in search of the elixir of immortality in order to be freed.
The anime will be directed by Kaori Makita and produced by MAPPA. Chiaki Kobayashi will play the main character, Gabimaru. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to July 2023. The second season will air on TV Tokyo and other channels from January 11, 2026, every Sunday at 11:45 PM.
