Ayumu was listening to Takao and Masato's conversation from outside the hospital room.
In episode 82, Aiko informs Ayumu that Takao has been discharged from the hospital, saying, "Maybe he wanted to go back to that house as soon as possible." Ayumu then begins, "Hey, Mom. I overheard you," and tells her that Takao had said that he was starting to forget Maki's voice. She then confesses, "I'm telling you because I'm your mom, but... I'm starting to forget about Maki too."
Ayumu continued, blaming herself, "Even though it's the monthly memorial day, I sometimes forget. You said we were such good friends, but it's so cold of me," to which Aiko gently replied, "Really? I don't think forgetting is such a bad thing. Because it means that you've moved forward, right? I think you should just remember when you can."
