The first episode of the drama series "Madoka26sai,kenshui Yattemasu!" (TBS, Tuesdays at 10pm), starring actress Kyoko Yoshine, was broadcast on January 14th. The surgeon Takeru Kanno, played by Nobuyuki Suzuki, became a hot topic for being "too cool".
The drama is based on Mizutani Midori's manga "Madoka26sai,kenshui Yattemasu!", "I'm a flustered medical intern," and "I came to be a medical intern on a remote island" (KADOKAWA). The drama follows the intense two years in which the protagonist, a medical intern named Wakatsuki Madoka (Yoshine), faces the challenges of veteran doctors, encourages each other with her peers, and faces life as a doctor and a woman, despite being confused when she is sarcastically told that "medical interns are customers" in a medical field that is changing due to work style reform.
Madoka starts working at Seiou General Hospital and is assigned to the surgery department, with Kanno as her supervisor. One day, an inpatient, Akane Yukawa (Mayumi Tanaka), complains of back pain. Madoka tries to consult Kanno, but Akane tells her, "It's just a stiff neck, so it's fine," so she doesn't report it.
However, the next day, Akane has to undergo emergency surgery. The operation is a success, but Madoka is asked by the surgeon Nishiyama (Masaaki Akahori) why she didn't report it, and is told, "If you had been one step later, the aortic aneurysm would have ruptured, and it would have been life-threatening. A trainee shouldn't make such decisions on his own!"
Madoka, who had reflected on her actions and was in tears, also apologized to Kanno, saying, "I'm sorry." Kanno responded, "No, it's my fault for not checking properly as a supervising doctor. Are you okay?"
One day, while Madoka was simulating an IV drip using her own arm, she received some advice from Kanno: "An IV drip is a mental thing. If you talk while you inject it, it will help you relax as well."
When Madoka asked, "Um, what's the direction of your hands...", Kanno went behind Madoka and gave her a "back hug" and explained, "(The direction) is not this way, it's like this." Madoka was shown panicking, saying, "(The distance) is too close, too close!"
On social media, comments such as "Dr. Sugano is so cool," "The back hug at the end was so heart-stopping," "What a natural back hug! I screamed!", "Not a back hug, but back IV instruction," "Suzuki Nobuyuki was so cool I'll be watching again next week," and "Isn't Dr. Sugano just too handsome? If he protected me like that when I made a mistake and bowed his head with me, of course I'd fall in love with him" were posted and became a hot topic.
