The New Year's Day Special (episode 9) "The Last Day" of the popular detective drama "Aibou Season 23" (TV Asahi) will be broadcast from 9:00 pm to 11:15 pm on January 1st. Guests include Takashima Masanobu, Fujimoto Takahiro, Takahashi Mitsuomi, Sakurai Junko, and Ishimaru Kenjiro. Jinkawa Kohei (Harada Ryuji), a detective from the Second Investigation Division who is well known for being "the third man in the special investigation unit," will also be appearing for the first time in about a year since "season 22."

On New Year's Eve, Ukyo (Yutaka Mizutani) was accompanying Jinkawa (Ryuji Harada) at a jewelry store in a department store. Jinkawa, who is still as romantically inclined as ever, wants to buy a ring to propose to his "destined partner" who is about to give birth. Ukyo meets a mother at the store who is looking for her lost daughter. She is the wife of popular news anchor Hiyama (Takashima).

At the TV station, Hiyama was surrounded by his assistant Takebe (Takahashi) and others as they prepared for a special year-end program. Then, he received a threatening letter from someone calling himself "Joker" saying, "I've taken care of your daughter." The criminal's demand was, "Go ahead and broadcast the live program as scheduled." His intentions were unclear.

Meanwhile, Miyako (Yukie Nakama) and Mineaki (Koji Ishizaka) are invited to the year-end party of Ijichi (Ishimaru), a powerful politician from the ruling party. Ijichi is troubled by the recent spate of violent attacks on his opponents by groups affiliated with the anti-social organization Joker.

Kaoru (Terawaki Yasufumi), along with Itami (Kawahara Kazuhisa) and Masuko (Tanaka Ryuzo), visits the home of Naho (Sakurai Atsuko), a classmate from her police academy days, and is introduced to her husband, Masashi (Fujimoto).

Ukyo deduces that the purpose of the kidnapping of Hiyama's daughter was to target Hiyama, who criticized Joker on the show. He contacts a man connected to Joker who was apprehended by Kakuta (Yamanishi Jun) and others. Although the man denies any involvement in the kidnapping, he testifies that "I have friends at the TV station"...
