The 61st episode of the NHK Asadora drama "Omusubi " starring Kanna Hashimoto was broadcast on December 23rd, and viewers were drawn to the plot in which Shoya (Hayato Sano) breaks up with Yui (Hashimoto).
Shoya was the ace of the Seikawa Electric baseball team, a prestigious amateur baseball team, but as a result of ignoring pain in his right shoulder, he collapsed from severe pain during practice and was rushed to the hospital.
In episode 61, Shoya confided in Yui about his serious injury. Shoya's right shoulder may not only have torn labrum, but also torn rotator cuff, and the manager told him, "No team would draft a pitcher with such a damaged shoulder."
Shoya told Yui, "Ever since I was a child, I've lived my life thinking only about becoming a professional baseball player. Even if I'm good at baseball, it's meaningless if I can't go pro. My dream is over now."
After a detailed examination, it was determined that his right shoulder was indeed seriously injured, and Shoya quit the baseball team. Shoya asked Yui if she would break up with him, and confessed that he had nowhere to go back to, since his brother had taken over his family's strawberry farm in Tochigi.
Yui recalls how Shoya had spoken positively in high school, saying, "Life doesn't go the way you want it to. You'll fail once, twice, no, many times." She asks, "Are you sure you want to give up?" However, Shoya replies, "I can't do it anymore!" "I wanted to become a professional baseball player and make Yui happy. But like this... I can't make you happy. So, break up with me." With a complicated expression on her face, Yui immediately answers, "...Okay. Then let's break up. Goodbye," and leaves the place.
On social media, various comments were made, such as, "Why would he decide to break up after that...that's so short-sighted," "He brought up the breakup without considering Yui's feelings. Of course she'd be angry," "It's so realistic that Yui is 'kind of annoyed' by Shoya, who unconsciously assumes that Yui will be happy and tries to break up with her," and "It's the first time she's ever been in a situation where all of her baseball-based goals have been taken away, so it's no wonder she's desperate."
