Tao Tsuchiya plays Yuriko, the daughter of a Takaba Mining employee, in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea" (Sundays at 9pm), starring actor Ryunosuke Kamiki. At first glance, she appears to be living a free and easy life, but she is a character who has complexes due to past events. Before the broadcast of the second episode (November 3rd), Tsuchiya commented.
The drama is a story of love, friendship and family spanning 70 years, set on Hashima Island (Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki Prefecture, which developed through coal mining from the beginning of the Meiji era to the high economic growth period after the war, and in modern-day Tokyo. It is produced by the same team behind the dramas "Unnatural" and "MIU404" (TBS) and the movie "The Last Mile", with screenwriter Akiko Nogi, director Ayuko Tsukahara and producer Junko Arai.
◇Tao Tsuchiya's comment
I think that through this drama, you will be able to get to know the charm of Hashima at that time without any sense of incongruity. In normal dramas, the themes tend to be split between love and work, but this work depicts the life of each character, and within those stories there are stories of love and friendship, so there is never a moment when the emotion fades away, which is a highlight of the show.
(The focus of episode 2 is "typhoon and love") The typhoon on Hashima was really terrible, and the sea winds were so strong that the waves came crashing down on the people. Yuriko's family is also thrown into turmoil, which really conveys how important her childhood friend is to Yuriko. It will be interesting to see how the romantic relationship develops, but episode 2 is a deep look into "human consideration."
