Actors Azuma Mikihisa and Saki Takaoka attended the "Sangi Teeth are Life Award 2025 - Apagard 40th Anniversary Brand Ambassador Inauguration Ceremony" held in Tokyo on July 31st. The two, who appeared in an Apagard commercial in 1996 and played a key role in popularizing the phrase "For celebrities, teeth are life," looked back on that time.
When a compilation of the commercials they both appeared in was played, they looked at each other and laughed, reminiscing about those times. Azuma said, "It brings back memories," and Takaoka smiled and said, "It brings back so many memories (laughs). It's amazing that we can still enjoy watching these commercials so much."
Looking back on the commercial, Azuma said, "It was innovative because there was no scene of brushing teeth," while Takaoka revealed her feelings at the time, saying, "At the time, there weren't many funny commercials like that. When I saw the storyboard, I thought, 'This is bad' (laughs). It was such an innovative commercial that I thought, 'If I do this, I wonder if I'll be finished...'"
Also attending the awards ceremony was actress Mizuki Yamamoto, who received the Sangi Teeth are Life Award 2025. Yamamoto was appointed as an ambassador to commemorate the brand's 40th anniversary.
