It has been announced that the rock band The Cro-Magnons will be performing the theme song for the feature film The Solitary Gourmet (to be released on January 10, 2025), which is a film adaptation of the popular TV drama The Solitary Gourmet starring actor Yutaka Matsushige, who also serves as director and scriptwriter. The title of the theme song is "Hunger and Me."
Matsushige and Hiroto Komoto, vocalist of The Cro-Magnons, happened to start working part-time on the same day at the Chinese restaurant Mintei in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, about 40 years ago, and hit it off. This time, Komoto responded to Matsushige's enthusiastic offer, saying "I really wanted Hiroto to do it," and produced "Hunger and Me." To announce the theme song, the two visited Mintei, which is still in business today, and took a commemorative photo wearing the same part-time work clothes they wore back then.
The latest trailer for the film, which uses "Hunger and Me," a collaboration between two old friends who have known each other for 40 years, has also been released.
"The Solitary Gourmet" was produced as a special project to commemorate the 60th anniversary of TV Tokyo's launch. The protagonist, Goro Inogashira (played by Matsushige), sets out on a journey to "find the ultimate soup" at the request of his ex-girlfriend's grandfather, and becomes embroiled in various incidents in Japan, Korea, and France. Other cast members include Yuki Uchida, Hayato Isomura, Anne, Joe Odagiri, Sansei Shiomi, and Takehiro Murata.
