A snippet of the main footage from the film "The Blue Boy Incident" (directed by Iizuka Kae, scheduled for release on November 14th) was released on November 7th. The footage includes three parts: "The Beginning of the Trial," "The Testimony of the Blue Boys," and "Sachi and Kano."
In the 1960s, Japan was in the midst of a period of rapid economic growth, amid excitement over the Tokyo Olympics and the Osaka Expo. As Japan stepped up its crackdown on prostitution in preparation for internationalization, prosecutors arrested the doctors who performed the surgeries in an effort to clean up the streets and eradicate the so-called "blue boys" who had undergone sex reassignment surgery (known at the time as gender reassignment surgery). Witnesses who had actually undergone the surgery appeared in court to question the illegality of the surgery.
In the film, actor Ryo Nishikido plays the role of lawyer Kano.
