Actress Mio Imada recently appeared at a preview event in Tokyo for her new drama "Crossroad ~A Promise in Emergency Medicine~" (Tuesdays at 9 PM, with an extended first episode), which starts on July 7th. Imada, who takes on her first role as a doctor in the drama as emergency physician Haruka Haruki, showcased a remarkable knot-tying scene in the first episode that was screened. However, she revealed her competitive side, saying, "Knot-tying was difficult. I practiced during breaks (in filming) and at home, but because I had practiced, I was very frustrated when I couldn't do it smoothly."
Hayato Isomura, who plays Haruki's senior emergency physician, Subaru Kiryu, praised Imada's portrayal of a doctor, saying, "I saw him practicing even in between takes, and he's a really hard worker. It made for a cool scene." Isomura, who is also taking on the role of a doctor for the first time in this series, joked, "In the first episode, when it came to the surgical technique scene, I was mostly just doing chest compressions (laughs). I was just pressing the whole time," to which Imada responded with a smile, "You were really cool."
Imada expressed his gratitude, saying, "We had a supervising professor who was always with us on set, so we were able to approach the filming while constantly asking him for advice." Isomura added, "We couldn't have done it without the supervising professors. When we were seeking realism and asked, 'Should we do it this way?', they would say, 'From a dramatic standpoint, this is where we're filming, so it would be better to do it this way.' I was surprised that they also knew how it would look in a drama (laughs). It was easy to work with them because they understood all of that." He revealed the behind-the-scenes details of the filming with plenty of humor.
Eiichiro Funakoshi and director Takuro Oikawa also attended the event.
"Crossroads ~A Promise of Emergency Medical Care~" is a medical drama that brings together the staff of "Doctor X" (TV Asahi) and "TOKYO MER ~The Running Emergency Room~" (TBS). The script is written by Izumi Takahashi, who worked on "PJ ~Air Rescue Group~" (TV Asahi) and the "Tokyo Revengers" film series, and directed by Oikawa, who worked on "The Japan's Number One Jerk Salaryman*" (Fuji TV), and Yuji Nakamae, who worked on "My Stepmother and Her Daughter's Blues" (TBS).
Set on the front lines of emergency medical care, the story follows young people—emergency physicians, paramedics, and police officers—who, despite their different professions, share a passionate commitment to upholding their own sense of justice, albeit with some inexperience. They confront real-world social issues such as power harassment, abuse, and illegal foreign workers, as well as unreasonable social systems and laws, and organizations that prioritize avoiding conflict.
