The car-enthusiast comedy duo "Ogiyahagi" explores the "car history" of their guests in "Ogiyahagi's Car History: NO CAR, NO LIFE!" (BS Nippon Television, Saturdays at 9 PM). On the June 6th broadcast, actor Takashi Naito will be the guest.
Naito has owned more than 50 cars so far. The first one he showed off was the Mazda Savanna RX-7, a sports car that debuted in 1978 and made the most of the appeal of the rotary engine, being lightweight, compact, and high-performance. He reminisces about his younger days, saying that this was the car of his senior colleague, Kunihiko Mitamura, with whom he often co-starred at the time, but then confesses a surprising past: "I longed for it so much, but I could never afford to drive one."
Next up is the Morgan 4/4, the beloved car of Hiroshi Tachi, a senior colleague whom Naito admires. Known as the longest-running and legendary model in Morgan's history, it was manufactured without a full model change from its birth in 1936 until production ended in 2019. Naito says, "Not only Mr. Tachi, but Kinya Kitaoji also loved Morgans, and these two senior colleagues whom I admire so much really cherished this car."
Furthermore, the Vanden Plas Princess, which debuted in 1963, also makes an appearance. This iconic car was beloved as a second car for Rolls-Royce, which boasts the world's highest level of recognition and status, and was also known as a "small luxury car."
When Naito mentioned the names of famous actresses who used this car, such as Kirin Kiki, Ayumi Ishida, and Kaori Momoi, Ogi and Yahagi were thrilled. Ken Yahagi, captivated by the elegant and minimalist design, blurted out his true feelings, saying, "I want my wife to drive it!" At the end of the program, the latest EV car that Naito would love to drive also makes an appearance.
