The second installment of "A Screening with Wakasa," a screening event looking back at the first season of "Yoroiden Samurai Troopers," a new TV anime that is the legitimate sequel to the "Yoroiden Samurai Troopers" TV anime series that aired from April 1988 to March 1989, was held on May 27th at Marunouchi Piccadilly (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). Hiroya Ishibashi, who plays Gai, and Kosuke Toriumi, who plays Saizo, one of the Ten Braves, made an appearance. Episodes 5-8 were screened, and they talked about the new Samurai Troopers and the Ten Braves.
◇The shocking first season: The adorable Jun...
"Yoroiden Samurai Troopers" is the first new anime in approximately 35 years since the OVA "Yoroiden Samurai Troopers MESSAGE" released in 1991, and the first television anime series to be broadcast in approximately 37 years.
Ishibashi reflected on episodes 5-8, saying, "After a lot of things happened, even more things happened, and Jun appeared... The bonds between the Samurai Troopers deepened. Shion also appeared and they fought. In anime of the Reiwa era, it's rare to see characters communicating with their fists."
Given the series of shocking developments, Toriumi commented, "Something significant happens in every episode. There's a certain harshness to it, but I couldn't help but wonder what would happen next. Jun was shocking. The script had character sheets and height comparisons, and only Jun's face size was odd. He was such a cute boy... But that's his life, I guess. I don't think he'll lose weight in the future. I might be lying, though."
◇Is Sasuke really the main character?
When the topic of the Ten Braves came up, Toriumi said, "Sasuke started acting like the main character," and Ishibashi added, "He gradually became more and more like the main character, and there was a buzz on set. People were saying, 'Isn't Sasuke the main character?'" showing that they were both interested in Sasuke.
When Ishibashi described the appeal of the Ten Braves as "their abs, don't you think? There was a shower scene too. There were a lot of behind-the-scenes shots. You can't hate them. They're good people," Toriumi nodded and said, "The detail in the shower scene was amazing. They're on opposing sides, but it really shows the character of the person."
Regarding Samurai Troopers, Ishibashi appealed, "The songs are also appealing," and Toriumi praised them, saying, "The song selection really resonates with my generation. Konitan (Katsuyuki Konishi, who plays Rama) is from that generation. They record the songs in the (voice acting) studio, so it's amazing that they can sing in that environment."
Footage from the second season was also shown, and Ishibashi commented, "Isn't Sasuke the main character after all?", while Toriumi asked, "Will Gai appear?", showing their interest in Sasuke's role.
Finally, Toriumi said, "The first season ended in a shocking way, but I hope you will watch until the very end to see what happens next," and Ishibashi added, "The songs that were sung in the first season are available on streaming services, so I hope you will enjoy the songs as well!"
"Armor Legend Samurai Troopers" is a completely original story set in present-day Shinjuku. Yoichi Fujita, known for "Gintama" and "Mr. Osomatsu," directs, while Shogo Muto, known for "Kamen Rider Build," "Crows Zero," and "Thermae Romae," is in charge of series composition and scriptwriting. It will be broadcast in two parts, with the first part airing from January to March. The second part will begin airing in July.
"Ronin Warriors" is an anime produced by Sunrise that depicts five boys who possess "Yoroi Gear" (armored suits) being brought together by fate to fight against the demonic army led by the demon emperor Arago. The TV anime aired from April 1988 to March 1989, and due to its popularity, OVAs were also produced. "Ronin Warriors Gaiden" was released in 1989, "Ronin Warriors: Legend of the Shining Emperor" from 1989 to 1990, and "Ronin Warriors: Message" in 1991. A manga adaptation by Ryuichi Hoshino was serialized in "Comic Bonbon" (Kodansha).
