The NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）", starring actor Taiga Nakano (NHK General, Sundays at 8 PM, etc.), has announced on its official social media that Oda Nobusumi will appear in episode 19, "An Assassin from the Past," airing on May 17th. Nobusumi will be played by Atsushi Ogata. Atsushi is the eldest son of actors Naoto Ogata and Atsuko Sendo, and his grandfather was Ken Ogata, who passed away in 2008, which has attracted attention from viewers.
"BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）" is the 65th Taiga drama. With Toyotomi Hidenaga (Koichiro) as the protagonist, it depicts the miraculous feat of unifying Japan together with his older brother Hideyoshi (Tokichiro) through their strong bond, a success story of dreams and hopes.
In episode 19, Nobunaga (Shun Oguri) hands over the family headship to his eldest son, Nobutada (Yuta Koseki), and begins construction of a massive castle in Azuchi, with his sights set on unifying Japan.
Hideyoshi (Sosuke Ikematsu) joins the campaign against the Uesugi clan led by Shibata Katsuie (Makiya Yamaguchi), but clashes with Katsuie over strategy. Meanwhile, Kei (Riho Yoshioka) is suspected of colluding with a warlord from another country, and Koichiro (Nakano) heads to the village she has been secretly visiting.
Then, Koichiro learns about Kei's sad past, which he had been desperately trying to keep hidden... and the story unfolds from there.
Oda Nobusumi, who will make his first appearance in this episode, is the eldest son of Nobunaga's younger brother, Nobukatsu. This marks the first time in seven years that Atsushi Ogata, who plays Nobusumi, has appeared in a Taiga drama since "Idaten" (2019). His grandfather, Ken Ogata, played Hideyoshi in "Taikoki" (1965) and "Ogon no Hibi" (1978), and his father, Naoto Ogata, played Nobunaga in "Nobunaga: King of Zipangu" (1992).
