The latest animated film in the popular "Tom and Jerry" series, "Tom and Jerry: The Magic Compass of Time" (distributed by Clockworks), will be released on May 29th. On May 14th, a scene featuring "Demon Tom," a popular character who appears when Tom is struggling with inner conflict, was released.
"Tom and Jerry" is a slapstick comedy short animated series featuring the world's most famous cat, Tom, and mouse, Jerry, as they engage in all sorts of chases in each episode. It celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2025.
In the latest movie, Tom and Jerry are playing their usual game of chase in a museum when they accidentally activate an ancient artifact on display, the "Star Compass," and are transported through time in a dazzling light. They arrive in the "Golden City," a different world thousands of years in the past, inhabited by a phoenix sage and unique guardian beasts. There, they find themselves in danger from the evil Rat King, who seeks to conquer the world with the power of the compass. In order to return to their own time, Tom and Jerry call a temporary truce and embark on a grand adventure as a team in the face of an unprecedented crisis...and that's the story.
The newly released footage shows the appearance of "Demon Tom," a popular character who appears when Tom is struggling with inner conflict. This character, who has been loved around the world throughout the series, will appear in this film, the first to be fully CG animated.
At the "Compass Traveling Exhibition" currently being held in New York, Tom and Jerry accidentally activate the magic of the ancient treasure, the "Star Compass," and are transported thousands of years into the past to the otherworldly "Golden City." When the crowd sees Tom descending from the sky, carrying a museum lantern on his back and with the compass around his neck, they mistake him for the legendary "Cat God" and cheer. Just as Tom is getting carried away and acting like a god, "Demon Tom," a symbol of his inner conflict, appears before him.
Riding on a cloud like the Flying Nimbus and wielding a trident, "Demon Tom" whispers to Tom, "They worship us. They think we're gods! Hurry up and take off your badge and hat (as a museum security trainee), or they'll find out who you are!" When Jerry adds, "Jerry's going to steal the credit," Tom throws his security guard hat at Jerry, and their usual chase begins... The relationship between Tom and Demon Tom, like that of an angel and a devil, is humorously depicted.
Watching this chaotic scene with bewilderment are the Phoenix Hermit (voiced by Takuya Sato Tadano). Surprised that the long-lost treasure, the "Star Compass," has fallen from the sky, they are unable to read the writing on Tom's modern security guard badge and hat, and the video ends with them about to confront the strange cat and rat in front of them.
Will Tom be able to keep his true identity—that he's not a cat god, but "just a cat working a part-time job as a security guard"—a secret that raises expectations for the biggest slapstick comedy ever to unfold on the screen.
