The opening scene of the latest animated film in the popular "Tom and Jerry" series, "Tom and Jerry: The Magic Compass of Time" (distributed by Clockworks, opening May 29), was released on April 29.
"Tom and Jerry" is a slapstick comedy short animated series featuring the world's most famous cat, Tom, and mouse, Jerry, as they engage in all sorts of chases in each episode. It celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2025.
In the latest movie, Tom and Jerry are playing their usual game of chase in a museum when they accidentally activate an ancient artifact on display, the "Star Compass," and are transported through time in a dazzling light. They arrive in the "Golden City," a different world thousands of years in the past, inhabited by a phoenix sage and unique guardian beasts. There, they find themselves in danger from the evil Rat King, who seeks to conquer the world with the power of the compass. In order to return to their own time, Tom and Jerry call a temporary truce and embark on a grand adventure as a team in the face of an unprecedented crisis...and that's the story.
The opening scene, which has just been released, allows viewers to fully appreciate Jerry's adorable charm.
Jerry, who had been eagerly awaiting the "Compass Traveling Exhibition" currently being held in New York, tidied himself up in front of the mirror and was perfectly ready to go out! He set off into the New York sky. In his hand, Jerry leaped from the rooftop of a building. Using it as a makeshift paraglider, he began a light and easy "stroll in the air." He then took out a balloon, inflated it, and floated gently through the sky.
Jerry heads to the museum, enjoying views of New York City landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge. Overflowing with joy and excitement to see the exhibition, the adorable Jerry is brought to life with meticulously detailed fur and lively expressions thanks to 3DCG, brimming with anticipation for what's to come.
However, waiting for them at the museum was Tom, who was working there as a security guard. The moment they were spotted, the usual chase began, and then the magic of the ancient treasure, the "Star Compass," was activated. With no way to resist, they were transported through time to another world and found themselves caught up in a grand-scale commotion unlike anything they had ever experienced before.
