The anime "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.", based on the gag manga by Shuichi Aso, will celebrate its 10th anniversary this July. To commemorate the anime's 10th anniversary, a special visual has been released. Along with the line, "Well, well, it's been 10 years already," the characters, including the psychic Saiki Kusuo, Nendo Riki, Kaido Shun, Teruhashi Kokomi, and Kuboyasu Aren, are depicted in a painting-like style that seems to leap out of the screen. It was also announced that a chibi-style illustration of Saiki Kusuo bending spoons with his psychic powers, which was unveiled at "Jump Festa 2026" held in December 2025, will be the special icon for the 10th anniversary.
Original author Aso commented, "When I hear 'I watched Saiki!', 95% of people are familiar with the anime version, and the Saiki K. anime is finally celebrating its 10th anniversary!! It's been 7 years since the serialization ended, but thanks to it I'm able to make a living! Thank you and congratulations!! ...By the way, I feel like nothing has been done for the manga's 10th anniversary... what should I do? It would be bad if the anime got any bigger than it already is, so should we put on a spectacular fireworks display? Should we bring out that? A sequel. We can't be left behind! ...What? There's no room for that? Please, somehow! Even just 2 or 3 pages would be fine...!"
Hiroshi Kamiya, who plays Kusuo Saiki, said, "I don't often hear people say 'I watch it' when I'm involved in anime, but when I was getting an IV drip, a nurse told me 'Saiki Kusuo is funny,' and I remember thinking how amazing Jump is, and wishing she had said that when I was healthier. That was about 10 years ago... time flies so fast. Even after 10 years, I think 'The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.' continues to shine with its unique personality! Congratulations on the anime's 10th anniversary!"
Director Hiroaki Sakurai said, "I was challenging myself to see how many lines I could say without taking a breath, and I can't believe it's already been 10 years. Kusuo's witty and sharp retorts are funny no matter how many times you hear (and read) them. The story of Kusuo and his friends made me realize again how precious and important everyday life is. Also! Having my birthday celebrated at the world premiere of the Ψ-Reawakened arc is a memory I will cherish forever. Finally, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the anime 'The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.', strike a pose, Aiwaz!"
In 2026, various projects will be implemented to commemorate the anime's 10th anniversary. As part of this, a voting project called "Anime 'The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.' Favorite Episode" will be held to select the "favorite" episode from the first season to "The Reawakening of Saiki K." In addition to the favorite episodes, voting will also be accepted for bonus episodes such as "Stories that you think are sweet," "Stories that make you think 'Oh dear'," and "Stories that make you go 'Ooh!'" The top 3 favorite episodes and the top-ranked bonus episodes will be streamed on YouTube for a limited time starting August 16th. Merchandise of the top-ranked episodes will also be sold. Voting is open on the voting website until May 31st. The top 10 favorite episodes and the top 3 bonus episodes will be announced on August 6th, Teruhashi Kokomi's birthday, and August 16th, Saiki Kusuo's birthday.
In June, they plan to release the non-credit versions of the opening and ending sequences, and in July, they plan to release a "●●" endurance video.
"The Disastrous Life of Saiki K." was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 2012 to 2018. It depicts the life of Saiki Kusuo, a psychic who tries to live an inconspicuous life, but gets involved in various troubles because of his eccentric friends.
The first season of the TV anime aired from July to December 2016, the second season from January to June 2018, and the "Final Arc" aired in December 2018. "Ψ Reawakened" began streaming on Netflix in December 2019. A live-action film adaptation directed by Yuichi Fukuda and starring Kento Yamazaki was released in 2017, which also garnered attention.
