The second episode of the TBS Sunday drama "GIFT," starring actor Shinichi Tsutsumi, aired on April 19th. The conversation between artist Hiroe Sakamoto, played by Tomoko Yamaguchi, and her son Sora Sakamoto, played by Yuta Tamamori, blended seamlessly into the setting and added color to the drama.
◇The following contains spoilers.
Hiroe is an artist with a unique sensibility. Sora works as a composer's manager at a music agency.
One evening, Sora brought a cylindrical baked good called "Kurtos" to Hiroe's house. "Doesn't this bring back memories? We used to eat these all the time when we lived in Budapest," he said, offering it to her. Hiroe was delighted and peered into the hole of the Kurtos like a child. "Chimney, chimney, chimney, Santa Claus coming through the chimney, Santa Claus," she sang happily with Sora.
Hiroe noticed that Sora was acting differently than usual as he hummed a tune while preparing drinks. "Did something good happen? Maybe you've met someone you like?" she asked.
When Sora denied it, saying "There isn't one," Hiroe pressed on, "I gave birth to you and raised you, so I know you. So, what kind of child is he?" Sora, who immediately thought of the astrophysicist Go Tetsu (played by Tsutsumi), answered, "A weird old man," to which Hiroe retracted her tongue and said, "A weird... old man!?"
On social media, comments included: "The Sakamoto family is so cute," "Yamaguchi Tomoko and Tama-chan are so natural, it's hard to believe they're not real mother and son," "The scenes with Tamamori-kun and Yamaguchi Tomoko as Sakamoto were great. What a wonderful mother-son pair," and "The scenes with Yamaguchi Tomoko and Tamamori Yuta were of such high quality, like they belonged in a different drama. I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll interact with the Bulls members in the future."
The drama follows the brilliant astrophysicist Wu Tiewen as he unravels the challenges facing the "Blaze Bulls" from his unique perspective. It's a story of redemption, where the team, friends, and family reconnect.
