The April 17th 1pm episode of Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) will feature a compilation of the best performances by actors who have played mother roles, titled "Loved Even When Playing Mother Roles."
Yoko Nogawa played the mother of Fuyuhiko, played by Shiro Sano, in the drama "I've Always Loved You" (1992), a role that became a popular catchphrase. She shared how she discovered aspects of herself she didn't know existed. Reiko Ohara spoke about her feelings towards Kasuga no Tsubone, the character she played in the 1989 NHK Taiga drama, who raised Shogun Iemitsu apart from her own child.
Etsuko Ichihara shared a story about how she was taken aback by the surprising actions of Naoto Takenaka, who played her son Hideyoshi in the 1996 NHK Taiga drama "Hideyoshi." Sumie Sasaki revealed that because she played the mother of Kiichi Nakai in "Fuzoroi no Ringotachi" (TBS), he still affectionately calls her "Mom" even after all these years.
