"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Fridays at 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle bizarre requests and worries submitted by viewers. On April 10th, Detective Hiroshi Tamura investigated "a country grandfather who lives with 14 goats." Yokoyama Yu from the popular group "SUPER EIGHT" made his first appearance as Special Director, with Ishida Yasushi as Assistant Director and Masuda Saori as Secretary.
The request came from a 29-year-old woman in Kyoto Prefecture. Her grandfather keeps goats. He started with two or three, but before she knew it, there were 14. People around him call them "Peter," the character from the anime "Heidi."
My grandfather is 80 years old and has a chronic illness. He has also been injured many times in entanglements with goats, so the whole family is trying to persuade him to reduce the number of goats he keeps. However, he only ever says, "I'll reduce them, I'll reduce them," or "I'll take the goats to market," but he never actually takes any action. We are well aware that the goats are my grandfather's passion, but we would like you to investigate whether he is truly serious about reducing the number of goats.
The woman's grandfather left all the farm work to her grandmother, and was truly "all about the goats." When asked how he felt, the grandfather said, "We have to reduce their numbers," and "I'm thinking of taking some to the market," but when asked, "Will the number increase any further?" he just said, "Hmm."
Actually, unable to travel due to the pandemic, he used his savings to buy goats. They were so resilient that they started giving birth one after another. Detective Tamura tries to uncover the grandfather's true intentions, but he is met with vague and evasive answers. So, he decides to put him in a situation where he has no choice but to reduce the number of goats, but when the grandfather sees the pickup truck that has come to take them away, he utters a shocking statement.
