The official trailer and stills for "Black Prison," a film adaptation of Honobu Yonezawa's masterpiece mystery starring Masahiro Motoki Motoki (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, opening June 19), were released on Getsuku.
The original novel (Kadokawa Bunko/KADOKAWA) was published in 2021 and is a popular work that has won numerous awards, including the 166th Naoki Prize and the 12th Yamada Futaro Prize. Araki Murashige (played by Motoki) rebels against the tyrannical methods of Oda Nobunaga and decides to hold out in his castle, but a series of strange incidents occur. The suspects are one of his retainers or family members who are inside the castle, which has become a locked room... As everyone becomes suspicious of each other, Murashige tries to solve the case together with Kuroda Kanbei (played by Masaki Suda), a dangerous genius strategist imprisoned in jail... This is a psychological mystery set in the Sengoku period.
The newly released trailer shows a series of mysterious incidents occurring within the castle. "This is truly inexplicable. Kanbei, lend me your wisdom," says Murashige, to which Kanbei, the imprisoned strategist of the enemy side, replies. "May I offer you my solutions?" Kanbei asks, and Murashige takes on each mystery one by one, but new mysteries keep arising along the way...
The retainers are thrown into turmoil, manipulated by an unseen enemy. Even his wife, Chiyoho (Yuriko Yoshitaka), his emotional support, expresses her anxiety, saying, "I don't know what my lord is thinking." What is the true aim of the mastermind behind the mystery? And what is the true meaning behind the many cryptic words Kanbei utters...? This is a must-see video that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you watch the ultimate psychological battle unfold.
The newly released stills include the main image showing the clash of intentions within the besieged castle, as well as images of Murashige and Kanbei glaring at each other, and Murashige's wife, Chiyoho, and his retainers, including Kori Juemon (Joe Odagiri) and Inui Sukesaburo (Ryota Miyadate of Snow Man), being cornered by enemies who should be inside the castle. The images depict Murashige and Kanbei, who should be enemies, cooperating to confront the inexplicable mystery and psychological battle that has been set up for them.
It was also announced that advance movie tickets (card and online) will go on sale from April 10th.
