The eighth episode of the NHK morning drama series " Kaze,Kaoru " (NHK General, Monday-Saturday 8:00 AM, etc.), starring Ai Mikami and Juri Kosaka, aired on April 8th, and the words of Rin's (Asadora ) mother, Mitsu (Mizuno Miki), became a topic of discussion among viewers.
Time passed, and Rin's daughter, Tamaki (played by Miyajima Ruka), grew up healthy. However, her life with her husband, Kameki (played by Miura Takahiro), remained far from the happiness Rin had envisioned.
One day, Mitsu sends Tamaki a copy of "Shin Sugoroku Shukujo Kagami" (New Lady's Guide to Sugoroku), and Rin says to her, "Tamaki, you should go to girls' school and study hard. After you graduate, you could become a teacher, author, missionary, newspaper reporter, or even a doctor? That sounds great!"
One evening, as Rin was writing a letter to Mitsu, a drunken Kamekichi returned home. Kamekichi burned the letter, saying, "You were probably talking bad about me," and declared, "I'm going to marry Tamaki off to a good man as soon as possible. Women don't need education." Rin begged him to let Tamaki go to a girls' school, but Kamekichi spat out, "That's pointless. I'm going to marry her off anyway."
Enraged, Kamekichi shouts, "You think you can get away with this?!" and throws something, causing the flames from the fallen lantern to spread to the shoji screen. As the flames spread rapidly, Kamekichi abandons Rin and Tamaki and flees with his mother, Sada (played by Negishi Kie). Deeply shocked, Rin carries Tamaki on her back and runs to her family home, the Ichinose house.
Rin, distraught, exclaimed, "I made a mistake... I made another mistake...!" but still prostrated herself before Mitsu, saying, "I'm so sorry, Mother. I'll quit. I'll quit being a wife!" After calming Rin down, Mitsu instructed her, "Run away to Tokyo." She handed Rin a piece of paper with the address of Nobukatsu (played by Yoichiro Saito), who lives in Tokyo, and told her, "We mustn't prolong this losing battle."
In response to what Mitsu said to Rin, comments on social media included: "That's a great quote from the mother. It really hit home," "The mother is so cool!", "The mother is amazing!!!", "As expected of a samurai's daughter! She's got guts," "I'm glad the mother is quick-witted," and "I'm glad Mitsu is a mother who cares more about her daughter's happiness than custom or appearances."
