The latest film in the "Star Wars" series, "The Mandalorian and Glogu" (directed by Jon Favreau, released simultaneously in Japan and the US on May 22), has released a special video on April 8 in which the cast and crew, including Pedro Pascal, who plays the Mandalorian, Sigourney Weaver, who plays Colonel Ward, Glogu, and director Favreau, talk passionately about the behind-the-scenes of filming, along with five new still images.
In the video, director Favreau, who openly declares himself a huge "Star Wars" fan since childhood, says, "I wanted to convey the excitement I felt when I first saw 'Star Wars'." Favreau is one of the fans whose life was profoundly changed when he saw "Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV)" (1977) in a movie theater at the age of 10, and he made this film with the utmost respect for George Lucas, the creator of "Star Wars."
The newly released footage shows the behind-the-scenes workings of the elaborate and massive sets, which were created with a strong emphasis on realism, following Lucas's signature realistic filming techniques. Director Favreau said, "This film makes full use of the latest technology, but we're also using the same filming methods as before. I want viewers to experience the same excitement I felt when I was younger."
The video also shows Glogu happily flapping his ears as Pascal, who plays the Mandalorian, strokes his head, and responding energetically to questions, allowing viewers to enjoy the father-son-like interaction between the two main characters. Pascal says of his relationship with Glogu, "At first it was unwilling, but gradually a deep bond developed." Weaver, who seems completely smitten with the cute Glogu, reveals about her character Colonel Ward, "I play an officer in the New Republic army. This isn't about revenge; you need someone to rely on," suggesting that the relationship between the Mandalorian, Glogu, and Colonel Ward will be key.
The new film, the first in seven years, is set after "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Episode VI)" (1983). Five years after the death of Darth Vader and the collapse of the Empire, peace should have returned to the galaxy, but the New Republic's rule doesn't reach every corner of the galaxy, and scattered remnants of the Empire and outlaws run rampant, creating chaos. The Mandalorian, a solitary bounty hunter who perfectly completes any job while adhering to strict rules with the motto "Our Way," takes on the job of delivering Glogu, also known as "The Child," who possesses immense Force power and is said to be a being that can change the world, alive to his client. The Mandalorian initially hands over Glogu in exchange for a large reward, but feeling a strange connection, he breaks the rules and takes Glogu back. During their journey, the two gradually develop a bond like that of a father and son. However, remnants of the old Empire who want to obtain Glogu's power are pursuing them... and that's the story.
